Slacker

Ailis

So you may be thinking that I’m a complete slacker.  Here I am, blog and all, and haven’t posted in, oh, about two weeks.  Did I disappear off the face of the planet?  Decide I have more important things?  Forget about this completely?

I actually have a good excuse.

I got married.

The thing is, I’ve referred to my (now legal) husband as my husband for sake of ease for a long time.  It’s a bit easier on the phone with people if I just say husband as opposed to boyfriend, fiance, etc.  We were engaged for over a year and were talking about marriage long before that so it made sense. We were married this past May 2 and just returned from our glorious week-long honeymoon in Spain.

I was going to write a post about this before everything happened but, as they do, a whirlwind of last minute everything happened and then it was wedding day and then it was time to get to the airport and I refused to get on a computer while in Spain and now we’re back and I’m still horribly jet-lagged.  I cannot seem to get my body to return to a normal sleep schedule to save my life.

So, what does this mean for WoW?  Not much has changed.  I’m still in the process of settling back into my day to day routine and getting over jet lag.  I’ll return to the game shortly after I’ve had a chance to get myself back in order and catch up on sleep.  I miss Ailis and my guild and I miss raiding.  I may, however, back off a little bit from the time invested in WoW in order to pursue some other things that I left by the wayside – writing, cooking, etc.  I’m thinking of actually returning to school at some point.

As for right now, I have a bit of unpacking to do and then I’m going to curl up on the couch with some tea and my husband and watch a movie on our new 50″ flat-screen.

Score.

Four Blogs You Must Read

AilisI read a lot of blogs every day.  Even if they haven’t published anything new, there are a few blogs that I’ll browse their archives to see if there’s any jewels I can dig up.  I’m hardly disappointed.

I wanted to share them with you in case you did not know about these WoW gems in the blogosphere.  Bookmark them, participate in the comment discussions, do what you will – in my humble opinion, these are some of the best out there.

WoWGrrl.com

I don’t have enough good things to say about her.  WowGrrl provides numerous guides on raiding from beginner to vastly experienced.  Her blogs are entertaining, informative, and well-written.  Plus, she keeps a regularly updated Twitter feed that she actually interacts with.  No tweeting then leaving.  She tweets, responds, retweets and then leaves.  She has been a tremendous source of information, laughs and good stories.

The Egotistical Priest

Vonya and Hannelore crack me up.  I rarely walk away from one of their posts not laughing and sending the link to my husband, guild, friends, or other random passers-by.  Just try to get through this without spraying coffee all over your keyboard.

Speaking of which, Hanners owes me a new keyboard…

In all seriousness, their blogs focus mostly on the healing aspect of the game from both the Horde and Alliance sides.  Their blogs mix humor with fact, entertainment with teaching, and always bring up through-provoking questions.

The Wordy Warrior

From the point of view of a tank, officer/GM, and Raid Leader, the Wordy Warrior is an extremely well-written blog about end-game raiding, guilds and the leadership trials that comes with the territory.  She has written a series of Top Ten guides that are extremely helpful, sarcastic, pointed, and hit very close to home.  She’s fairly new in the blog kingdom so give her a spin and see what you think.

I adore her blog pics.

Coffee with Sargeras

The blog that was borne out of the infamous chat log, this is, by far, the most hilarious blog I read on a daily basis.  Yes, that is the Sargeras.  Quake with fear and then chortle.

I even own a shirt.

3.1 So Far

AilisSo it’s been a very interesting couple of days.  My guild has held off tackling Ulduar until all the issues with the instance servers settle down, even though Ensidia already has downed Yogg-Saron (duh..).  We’re hoping to go in tonight on 10 man and check it out so here’s to crossing fingers. Kdkdos ksli ofk j… Okay, I’ll cross fingers later.

In the meantime, what have I been doing?

I’m so glad you asked.

Ailis Has a Legitimate Split Personality

I dual-specced my Shaman for Enhance/Resto.  Since the instance servers have been sporadic at best, I haven’t been able to really try out the new enhance build or my resto build at all.  I did some pummeling on the training dummy and watched my DPS skyrocket so I’m pretty pleased with the enhancement changes.  The new expertise boost with Unleashed Rage enabled me to actually use my gem sockets for something other than expertise for a change.  It was nice to gem in agility…almost refreshing.

I still haven’t seen a Feral Spirit glyph yet on my server.  If you’re on Stormrage and can make one, will you send one to me?  I really would like to test it out.

I’m not sure how the changes in haste for melee will fully affect me until I get into a sustained dps situation like in a raid.  Once the servers are stable, I’m tempted to grab some people just to go pound on Patchwerk so I can really test my new stats.

Resto-wise, I’m a complete noob.  A few of you have asked for some resto info so I may ask a good friend of mine to step in here and jot down some resto notes for those of you wanting to know.  I’m really nervous to heal in Ulduar.  My gear is good, but is it good enough for Ulduar?  Everything I’ve read so far says “maybe” and that makes me quake just a little bit.

But it’s a good quake.  Promise.

I Challenge Thee!

Other than that, I love the Argent Tournament.  It’s such a little, silly medieval tournament in the far corner of deep, dark Icecrown but it’s a blast.  I love when you fly in on the taxi, everyone cheers when you crest the mountain leading into the arenas.  The duelling on the horses is a blast. I suck at it and am hardly coordinated enough to get it done but I got my achievement fair and square and was extremely excited afterwards.

The RNG continues to hate me as I fish for the Sea Turtle.  A guildie of mine got it on the first day and then promptly received a mini-pet from the fishing daily the next day.

I hate him.

However, I have enough mats for multiple stacks of Fish Feast so it’s not a total loss, right?

If we get into Ulduar tonight, more raid goodies tomorrow!

Patch Day!

AilisIt’s Patch Day!

Some of you, like me, are probably scouring the intertubes for all the information you can find to get ready for this afternoon when the servers go live.  I’ve been reading up on boss fights in the hopes that we can go into Ulduar tonight, browsing loot tables, reading up on new achievements and a ton more.

So, when the servers come up what are you going to do first?

For me, it’ll probably go like this:

Step 1. Log in

Step 2. Disconnect

Step 3. Reconnect and troubleshoot addons

Step 4. Disconnect

Step 5. Reconnect and buy dual-spec (yay, achievement!)

Step 6. Spec into Enhancement and Resto (builds still TBD but this is what I’ve been playing with)

Step 7. Disconnect

Step 8. Reconnect and attempt to hearth to Dalaran but end up having to take the boat because of lag

Step 9. Head out to the Argent Tournament

Step 10. Profit

What about you?  What are your plans for the first few moments of the new patch?
